Software Development Manager

Full-Time

We are looking for an experienced hands-on software development manager who has a proven track record delivering world-class solutions using agile software development and extreme programming. Your critical role is the long-term success of the development team. Your purpose is to keep our vision on track. You look ahead to ensure that your deliverables meet our business needs by interacting closely with our creative design team, business stakeholders on planning and preparing for new projects, and project management to keep your projects on time and budget. You will lead a team of web and applications developers, senior programmers and manage vendors, constantly guiding and driving changes to make a better product, develop and maintain cutting-edge skill sets in your group and preparing the development team for next challenges. You examine, evaluate, and assess the impact of potential market changes in collaboration with our producers and focus on long-term objectives. Your role is intimately involved with prioritizing multiple possibly conflicting priorities across software development projects and to intertwine your team's activities across projects to drive efficiencies. An essential part of your role is to ensure that our business owners are pleased with the value of your software development team.

Position Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, MS Preferred, with expert knowledge in multiple computer science disciplines
  • More than 10 years of relevant hands-on technical software development experience with a record of strong individual achievement with at least 4+ years of relevant experience as software development manager with budgeting responsibilities and leading projects and people
  • Strong solutions architecture and project management background
  • Experience coding scalable highly concurrent online Internet solutions that are used by multi-million visitors, and mission critical ecommerce and corporate solutions leveraging front-end load balancing and SQL mirroring and clustering
  • Strong background writing highly manageable, well documented, secure code
  • Program language knowledge in C/C++/C#, ASP.Net, and scripting languages, including understanding of compiled code performance and stack behaviors
  • Practical work experience with SQL 2005, Windows Server 2003, Visual Studio Team System 2005 with Team Foundation Server, Team Suite, Architecture and Database Tools, Project Server 2007, Source code control and bug tracking systems
  • Superior working knowledge of .Net 2.0/3.0/3.5, including Workflow Foundation (WF), Windows Communications Foundation (WCF), Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Language Integrated Query (LINQ), localization and globalization through resource files, Web Services, Flash and Action Script, AJAX, RSS, HTTP, XML, XAML, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and TCP/IP communications protocols required
  • 3rd party software development house vendor management
  • Familiarity with Capabilities Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) framework, Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK), Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Adept at scheduling multiple conflicting priorities and skilled in the use of resource scheduling tools
  • Firm understanding of career development process and how to develop people in the organization
  • Creating and presenting software development reports
  • Excellent organizational and effective communications skills
  • Desire to remain technically hands-on
